KNOCKOUT – The Ants are on the March – two by two… by the thousands and thousands… and the millions – throughout NYC, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, and Rockland Counties.

Ant Bait Stations are not effective against all ants.
The request for service calls and emails are coming in from Long Island, through Queens, Brooklyn, the islands of Manhattan and Staten Island, as well as the Bronx, and the more northern counties of Westchester and Rockland – the ants are on the move and are moving into residential and commercial business spaces like hotels and restaurants with a vengeance.
If you read my March 16, 2011 blog, “Worst Spring/Summer Pest Season… in Years”, then you should be prepared for the onslaught – “Bug Battery”, of creepy crawlies invading your “indoor spaces”. Ants seems to be particularly intrusive right now and that may not only be because of the protective snows, but the recent rains have made the ants seek drier living quarters… your home and place of business.
Many people don’t have an ant problem significant enough to call a pest control company like mine, but if a property owner, home or business, allows the situation to go unchecked, or hasn’t properly identified the insect, (even what type of ant), or doesn’t know how to deal with the pest problem; then it may be time to call a pest control expert like… well us – Knockout Pest Control.
If you are having an ant problem, first try to identify what ant it is. Each species has different food sources, (some like sweets and others prefer protein), destructive capabilities, and habits. Some ants you can eradicate while others you can only control and manage. There are specific ways to control different species of ants and even those that can be killed with say – baits; once the ants are exterminated the baits should be removed. Some ant bait stations can actually become harborage to roaches or even attract a lone ant scout from another foraging colony and start a brand new ant infestation. That’s an important reason that ant baits shouldn’t be placed about unless there is an ant problem. It just might turn out to be an invitation to attract ants.
This is a good reason to consult a pest control expert about your pest problem. I can’t begin to tell you how many people think they have sugar ants and it is really destructive Carpenter Ants or Termites… but there are many who are experiencing significant ant problems. So take precautions – kill any lone scout ants before they can set a pheromone path for other ants to follow, clean areas and un–baited areas with soap and water. If you vacuum up a bunch of ants – make sure you also vacuum up a tablespoon of corn starch – it will make sure they suffocate and die in the bag. If ants seem to be coming in from the outside – check that any obvious openings are caulked and sealed. And most important keep food sources tightly sealed whenever possible.
These controls seem simple and easy, but we understand that in many cases it isn’t that easy or simple. Every location and operation is different; a kitchen can have hundreds of “nooks & crannies” and endless drawers while a restaurant or warehouse space can be a world within itself.
That’s when you call us. We’re experts and are always ready and happy to help. And ask about our KO–12 programs for both residential properties and commercial properties… not only will we be on the case for common ant problems, but for crickets, fleas, roaches, moths, silverfish, rodents, carpenter ants & carpenter bees, rodents (mice & rats) and a whole lot more. Give me a call.

Every time it rains ants had come into my house, the kitchen and sitting room especially. I buy ant baits from the store and they never seem to work, just like you blog says. Finally, I hired a professional exterminator, he said he was familiar with Knockout Pest Control and that it was a very reputable company in the industry, (I though you would like to know). This exterminator discovered that ants had colonized in my unfinished basement and crawl spaces. The exterminator physically removed many of the ants, he just vacuumed them up and then sprayed something into the crawl space too. The ants looked big but the exterminator said they were not carpenter ants. It has been several weeks now and my ant problem seems to have ended. I’ve talked to many people who are trying to deal with their ant problems by putting cinnamon powder around their house. I think they’re attracting sugar ants into their homes now. People do crazy things to save a some money. I think you should write about all of the do it yourself scams out there for all these insects – even the sprays you buy in the hardware stores aren’t as effective as what a professional exterminator would use. Exteminators are trained and use chemicals that need licenses and use other methods that physically deal with insect problems. Like the exterminator even caulked my baseboards after applying a powder. I cannot tell you how grateful that there are people and companies like YOU out there who tell it the way it is. I like your blog, too bad you don’t service Bergen County NJ.
