They're Monsters!
For some people the appearance of Camel or Cave Cricket in their basement or ground floor rooms is a regular fall event. These rather BIG crickets, usually live in caves, (hence the name – CAVE CRICKET), or under rocks and fallen rotting trunks, but like most fall home invaders these rather large crickets come into a home over the winter to shelter themselves from the cold and snow, and secure a more reliable food source. And unfortunately, these pests find dark damp basements perfect environments to breed and multiply. Once established, these crickets could find its new winter digs a great YEAR ROUND place to stay and raise a family.
Now I keep saying that these crickets are rather large. Well they are. These little monsters can be as long as 4 inches, with a 2 inch body. Their large body’s back slopes upward, (hence the other name - CAMEL CRICKET). These crickets don’t chirp so the only noise you will hear is the SCREAMS of your family when they see how FAR and HIGH this 4 inch ugly monster can JUMP. Sorry, but it’s true. And when there is more than one… AND they jump toward YOU, (which is a startle reaction trait they are known to do), even the fearless could be thrown off guard and may let out a “yelp”.
Besides these CAVE CRICKETS/CAMEL CRICKETS being creepy, disgusting, and scary, (perfect for Halloween), these pests can leave a significant amount of fecal matter. They eat organic matter, anything from rotting wood to food stuffs, but the remove of a food source is NOT a guarantee to eradicate a CAVE/CAMEL CRICKET infestation, because not only are these little monsters know to eat one another to survive, but they are know even to EAT OFF THEIR OWN LIMBS to survive. This is rather unique in the World of Nature, since these limbs… DON’T GROW BACK. These are feisty little creatures.
Many people try to take on a CAMEL/CAVE CRICKET problem/infestation on by themselves, but what worries me, as a professional, is how most people do it. Over the counter broad spectrum insecticides won’t necessarily deal with the problem. The use of more powerful insecticides meant for OUTDOOR USE, but used indoors may have some effect on killing these hearty crickets, but the misuse of these powerful insecticides will also have a SIGNIFICANT NEGATIVE HEALTH IMPACT on YOU, YOUR FAMILY, and PETS. Don’t do it. Call a professional.
At KNOCKOUT PEST CONTROL, not only will we physically remove many of these pests using traps, we also have specific insect targeted pesticides intended to be used INSIDE the home. We can also use baits that these CRICKETS “love” to eat but gives them devastating terminal heartburn.
So, if YOU have a recurrent CAVE/CAMEL CRICKET problem, then maybe your problem is long established; and if YOU are experiencing this infestation for the very first time… then maybe it’s about time you called KNOCKOUT PEST CONTROL so we can solve your CAMEL/CAVE CRICKET problem.

OMG! I recently moved into a brownstone basement apartment. I love it. Except the other day I came home to a herd of camel crickets, or cave crickets, whatever you want to call them, jumping around throughout my small apartment. They seemed to be everywhere. In my kitchen, my living room, my bedroom, and even inside my closets. They’re not only large and disgusting, they’re scary. They jump all over the place and they jump directly toward you. I must admit and I’m not ashamed I screamed because I had my landlord come see and he screamed too when they jumped. He didn’t know what to do so I searched online and found your blog and website. Thank you. I gave him your info. As for now, I’m sleeping over at a friend’s apartment in Queens. Their apartment is on the fourth floor. I hope he calls you soon.
