Bed Bug Scam.
I see it all over the internet. I see ads in newspapers. They’re in catalogs. They all boast being Eco-Friendly, Safe, and Effective in killing and repelling Bed Bugs. I’ve been in the Pest Control business for 35 years and killing Bed Bugs with “mint” and “essential oils”, or with “sonic generating” devices is a bunch of HOOEY! Bed Bugs are a tough pest to eradicate, and they’re getting harder and harder to kill.
DDT isn’t effective anymore, (I hate to break it to all those people who want to bring DDT back), but Bed Bugs have been resistant to DDT since the 1950s. And in the 1940’s Bed Bug treatments included soaking bedding with gasoline, heating metal bed frames with torches, and even using Hydrogen CYANIDE… so how on earth would anybody even imagine that spraying an area with Clove & Peppermint Oil is going to have any effect… other than emptying your wallet or purse?
Today, chemical pesticides for Bed Bugs have migrated away from Malathion to pesticides like PROPOXUR. Using pesticides like these are necessary in eliminating Bed Bugs from a residence or place of business. It is PART of the total Integrated Pest Management Approach.

Most people that do ONLY MAKE THE PROBLEM WORSE….driving Bed Bugs into other areas, into other rooms, or worse allow them to multiply and become a serious and difficult to treat infestation, because YOU decided to use Cinnamon Spray Scent instead.

It’s about time somebody started exposing these scam artists. Why isn’t the general media and authorities going after these awful people preying on people in emotional distress? I experienced a bed bug problem a year ago and I bought into all this natural homeopathic stuff. Looking back I think the bed bugs actually liked the smell of the sprays. Eventually I called a professional exterminator. The first one didn’t know what he was doing. I eventually hired a company that used a freezing process to kill them. They did a very thorough job. It took 3 visits, because of my futile attempts to handle the problem myself and using an incompetent exterminator to save a few dollars, so I inadvertently spread the bed bugs into several rooms. The pest control company wasn’t you but after reading your blog and looking over your website I wish it was your company. I just want to tell people out there with bed bugs to listen to you about all the scams out there and beware. From firsthand experience - call a professional exterminator experienced in killing bed bugs and uses a dog to find the bed bugs and kills them by freezing. It is the safest and cheapest way to kill bed bugs.
Why can these companies get away with this? I’ve seen warnings on AARP and a few other places, but for the most part all of these bed bug scams and false claims from over the counter bed bug exterminating products are advertising freely all over the place - preying on poor saps like me who are terrified about getting bed bugs. A good lady friend of mine had them last year and so many people took advantage of her - it was appalling. Only after she hired a professional bed bug exterminator who used a machine that jetted out a freezing spray did she finally get rid of the bed bugs. I’m not sure what professional exterminator she used was – it might have been your company. It may be self serving of you to tell people to rid themselves of these pests by calling in a professional bed bug exterminator – but I think you should be commended in telling the public to avoid all of these bed bug scams and fake bed bug products and phony and false promises that they will kill or repel bed bugs. There ought to be a law. There probably is – so why isn’t anyone doing anything about these charlatans and snake oil salesmen? Thank you – I appreciated reading your website.
