KNOCKOUT – Bed Bugs Long Island, Bed Bugs NYC, Bed Bugs Westchester, Bed Bugs Rockland Counties… Survey Says:
January 17th,2011
ALL of the ABOVE! “Bed Bugs have been found in all 50 states, but the incidence is three times higher in urban areas”, like the New York Metropolitan area, so says a recent survey by the National Pest Management Association that was released this January 2011. As a leading pest control company in New York, we at Knockout Pest Control, we can confirm that our calls to treat for and eliminate bed bugs infestations have been enormous, partly due to the rise in the problem, and I would be remiss if I also didn’t credit it also partly due to Knockout Pest Control’s stellar NY reputation of successfully eliminating bed bugs from both residential and commercial properties. A recognition that we are very proud of attaining.
The NPMA survey reveals that overall “one out of five Americans has had a bed bug infestation in their home or knows someone who has encountered bed bugs at home or in a hotel”. That’s 20% of the US population. But people in Nassau, Suffolk, New York City, Westchester, and Rockland counties should note that the incidence of bed bug infestations and encounters is “three times higher in urban areas”.
Why? Because of a larger population size, closer proximity in travel (public transportation), closer proximity in living (apartment living and large offices); all factors that are conducive to the rapid spread and breeding of bed bugs.
As the public becomes more aware of bed bugs and this resurgence grows, many Americas, including New Yorkers are modifying their behaviors to minimize infestations. Twenty-seven percent have inspected or wash clothing upon returning from a trip; 25 percent say they check a hotel room for bed bugs before settling in; 17 percent go as far as vacuuming luggage upon returning from a trip, and 12 percent have said they altered or even cancelled travel plans because of a concern about bed bug; 29 percent say they wash new clothing immediately upon bringing it home from the store; and lastly 40 percent say they avoid entering a home that was once infested and of those some discourage those, whose homes had bed bugs, from entering their own home.
Some of these precautions are good. Some may be a little severe, socially speaking. You can’t avoid people and eventually you’re going to run into bed bugs somewhere and sometime. So my advice remains the same – educate yourself about bed bugs. Avoid thinking that having a problem with bed bugs is a social stigma and just deal with them quickly; and use a professional so an infestation is dealt with quickly and properly. This will not only avoid spreading bed bugs but treating for and killing bed bugs early in an infestation process keeps treatment costs down. A professional will also help and offer you tips and options to keep bed bugs from establishing themselves into your home or business. I have told you, in earlier blogs, about products like the Bed Bug Hot Box, the Active Guard Mattress and Box Spring Liners, and the Climb-Up Interceptors, these are just part of being vigilant.
The more people address bed bugs NOW, before a bad problem becomes worse, the sooner the public will turn the tide on the bed bug problem in New York, and across these United States.
Comments
I just read an article in the Wall Street Journal intimating that bedbugs are evolving genetically and are becoming indestructible. Is this true? I would appreciate it if you would comment on this.

This morning on my way to work, I heard NPR on the radio and a reporter was talking about how bedbugs were getting stronger and pesticides were no longer working to kill them. They made it sound as if exterminators were out of options to kill bedbugs. I immediately thought of you, because I choose your company to exterminate my home for a bedbug problem. Your techs explained why you use CO2 to kill bed bugs by freezing them, just because bedbugs are developing stronger fortitude against regular pesticides. You should call these guys at NPR and let them know that there are options to kill bedbugs besides by just using a pesticide.
FYI – I no longer have a bedbugs. Thanks. And although I never bought the Bed Bug Hot Box at the time, I eventually did call you and got the Active Guard liners. They make me feel safe from bedbugs.
